LANSING – Five days after Dave Agema’s offensive comments about LGBT Michiganders at a county GOP holiday party, Michigan Republicans have disavowed Dave Agema’s latest hateful and homophobic rant, but fellow RNC Committeewoman Terri Lynn Land refuses to condemn Agema’s bigotry.
Land refused to answer calls for comment from the media, from fellow Republicans, and from Equality Michigan, which said that her silence meant tacit endorsement for Agema’s statement.
“How could a fellow RNC member and worse, a U.S. Senate Candidate running to represent all Michiganders in Washington not disavow the kind of hateful and offensive rhetoric that has no place in our public discourse?” asked Joshua Pugh, Michigan Democratic Party Communications Director. “Five months after she promised Michiganders a summer listening tour, Land still hasn’t held any public events, to explain to voters why she supported the government shutdown that cost Michigan families millions, her position on the Affordable Care Act, or her offensive comments in multiple fundraising emails. Land should join her fellow Republicans in condemning Agema’s hateful bigotry immediately. Michiganders deserve a leader who will stand up for what’s right – no matter the party.”
