Hi there; Tessie Swackhammer, here. As you may, or may not know, I live in a little place called Dire Straits, which is located smack dab between a rock and hard place. Our town has been in the news a lot lately as most everyone in our country is now on our doorstep. That’s what’s been keeping me busier than President Obama in his first 100 days. So, I haven’t had time to do much reporting.
I have a column in “Currents”, the Shiawassee Democratic Newsletter that you may have read, or maybe not. But it’s great to be on the Democratic website, too—or at least I think so. Others may differ from my opinion; they usually do.
But holy jamoley folks—watch out. Swine Flue is coming to a place near you. Oh, wait! This just in from our government. Don’t panic—yet. Well, here in Dire Straits we feel it’s never too early to panic. And we do have a lot of swine in our town right now. We have lots of greedy financial so-called wizards who put our country’s economy in the tank with their creative financing. Looked good on paper; not so good when actually practiced. Of course they got all the gain and none of the pain. They passed the pain along to the average American who doesn’t really understand high finance. On the other hand not many people, even economic gurus, understand what these scumbags did. So, if these swine have the flu, you can be sure they would be more than happy to pass it along to us.
And this not quite late breaking news—Arlen Specter is now a Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania. Yeah! He switched sides after the Republicans made it plain that their big tent just wasn’t big enough for him and were planning on derailing him in the primary. It took him a while, but he finally decided to come on over and we welcome him into our Democratic fold.
One more observation—Obama has completed his first 100 days in office. The pundits went wild on this event. From his first day in office they began the countdown. I started thinking that it was just a hundred day presidency, for goodness sakes. CNN even had a report card grading system set up on their website. We could vote on how good or bad a job we thought he was doing. So, that’s over and now what? Is he going to be graded every 100 days? Many of his policies haven’t even had time to get off the ground. And for all you Republicans, Obama has four years—not a hundred days. Live with it.
Meantime, this is Tessie saying, “See ya on the lean, mean streets of Dire Straits.”
